Lesego Junior Nkooe, better known as JNR SA, is a versatile DJ and producer whose roots trace back to Mabeskraal Village in Rustenburg. With a passion for music ignited at age eight, he began his journey playing various instruments in church, influenced by his musically inclined parents. Officially stepping into the spotlight in 2015, JNR SA quickly gained recognition with his debut single, “Happy Souls,” which topped the Yfm Hot 99 Dance Charts in 2016.
JNR SA is a key contributor to the South African dance scene, blending genres from tech to three-step with seamless artistry. His collaboration with Mobi Dixon on the track “When House Was House” earned them a South African Music Award (SAMA) in 2022, and his co-production on Darque’s “More Life” album further solidified his status as a formidable force in the industry.
His latest EP, “Indlela,” in collaboration with Universal Music Group features renowned artists like Simmy, Sunel Musician, and Kabza De Small, showcasing his dynamic influence in the music scene. In a recent episode of Groove Cartel, hosted by Ash Mopedi, JNR SA shared insights into his journey. He attributes his love for music to his parents—his mother, a music conductor during her teaching days, and his father, an instrumentalist in church.
He also discussed his experience at Piano Land, an Amapiano-focused event in the Netherlands, where he introduced the three-step genre. The unique blend of sounds was met with unbelievable enthusiasm, highlighting how Amapiano and three-step complement each other.
