In the heart of Soweto, where culture, resilience, and creativity bloom on every corner, a new kind of legacy is being bottled — one drop at a time. Mobella Essentials, a rising fragrance house led by Muziwakhe Nkosi, a self-taught perfumer and entrepreneur, who is redefining the art of scent, proving that luxury can be both deeply personal and unapologetically African.

Before Mobella Essentials became a brand, it was a hustle — a necessity. “I used to resell perfumes just to get by,” recalls Muziwakhe. But the more he studied people’s emotional connection to scent, the more he realised fragrance was more than just aroma — it was identity, mood, and memory. “Perfumes change how people feel. Some wear them based on seasons, others for how they want to be perceived. I was fascinated by how powerful that connection is.”
Like many entrepreneurs, the path wasn’t smooth. Reselling limited his growth — clients loved the products but remained loyal to the original brand owners. “It didn’t matter how hard I worked; I was building someone else’s name. Quality control wasn’t in my hands, and I lost trust and customers.” Determined to take control, he began researching fragrance production, eventually meeting a mentor who offered to teach him — if he could raise the capital. “I wanted it as much as I wanted to breathe,” he says. “So I made a plan.”
That plan became Mobella Essentials.
Fragrance: A Language of Identity

At Mobella Essentials, their perfume is an experience — steeped in craft, emotion, and science. The brand primarily offers Extraits De Parfum and Pure Parfums, two of the most potent fragrance types on the market, lasting between 12 to 24 hours on the skin. It’s not just about longevity; it’s about personality that lingers.
“We mix with precision. Our materials are carefully selected for their quality and sillage — that trail a scent leaves behind, almost like a signature.”
Muziwakhe also offers practical tips for perfume lovers: Layer your scents on moisturized skin (Shea butter works wonders), apply to pulse points — and please, stop rubbing your wrists together! This breaks the top notes and shortens the life of your perfume.
Mobella is educating a new generation of scent connoisseurs.
Luxury, Localised
What makes Mobella truly revolutionary is its grounding in Soweto culture, wrapped in a forward-facing luxury aesthetic. The brand isn’t about imitation — it’s about innovation. “Luxury is being redefined by young Africans,” he explains. “We’re moving away from fast fashion and disposable trends. We want things that last, that mean something.”
Soweto — home to icons like Jomo Sono, Richard Maponya, and Bob the Stylist — remains a source of inspiration. “Through them, I learned that it’s possible. We don’t have to wait for anyone to save us. We can build now, with what we have.”
Mobella Essentials fits into a growing lifestyle movement where scent is as vital as style — a sensory expression of who you are, where you’re from, and where you’re headed.
Signature Scent

One standout is IVAR — featured in a clean, minimalist bottle that whispers class and complexity. With its unisex tone and pure concentration, IVAR captures what Mobella is all about: understated elegance, high-impact presence, and local excellence bottled to global standards.
Empowerment Through Ownership
As the South African economy searches for growth, small and medium enterprises like Mobella Essentials are leading the charge. “SMEs account for over 60% of employment in thriving economies. We must create jobs through innovation, and fragrance is just one path.”
His advice to young entrepreneurs? “Never think you’re less than. Those who seem ahead just know something you haven’t learned yet. Once you do — you’re just as capable.”
The vision for Mobella Essentials is bold: a premium, culture-driven fragrance powerhouse with international reach. But the founder is clear — growth won’t come at the cost of intimacy and intention. “Even globally, Mobella must feel personal, luxurious, and rooted.”
